Eye and Vision Exams

These days, proper health care is more important than ever, and proper eye care is an important part of that equation. That is why eye and vision exams from an optometrist are so important, whether you have a history of vision problems or not. Eye exams do more than check for inadequacies in your eyesight, they also check for various eye health issues as well as some general health issues like diabetes and hypertension, which are sometimes noticed by your eye doctor before your regular health care provider.

Types of Eye Exams

Eye exams at Saline Optometry focus on evaluating vison, eye function as well as eye health. A vision acuity test is the cornerstone of the comprehensive eye exam performed by our optometrist. The first step is to get a general idea of a person’s vision by using an eye chart that identifies how close vision is to 20/20.

In addition to the vision check, we also look at how well your eyes see and how well they function in other ways. Eye functioning tests cover areas like peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, response to light, and eye muscle capabilities. We also make sure your eyes are teaming properly and look for conditions like lazy eye or crossed eyes.

Overall eye health is also important. We pair tonometry tests with visual exams and look at the inner structure of the eye by dilating the pupils. This allows us to measure a person’s eye pressure, which can single the possibility of eye diseases such as glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy, as well as check for other eye health issues.

Choosing Your Corrective Lenses

While the most common vision exam aims to identify eyeglass prescriptions, at Saline Optometry and Chelsea Eyeglass Company we also provide contact lens exams and exams for LASIK surgery. During a contact lens exam, we can determine whether or not standard soft contact lenses are sufficient to correct your vision, or if hard to fit contacts are necessary to correct any astigmatism or accommodate other vision issues you may have. If you are looking to take the step into more permanent vision correction, we can also look at your vision history and current vision challenges and determine if you are a candidate for LASIK eye surgery.

At Saline Optometry and Chelsea Eyeglass Company we are committed to giving you the eye exam experience that is right for your eyes, and helping you find the type of corrective lenses that fit your budget and lifestyle.
